Die Staatsgalerie Stuttgart zeigt vom 27. September 2008 bis 11. Januar 2009 unter dem Titel "Matisse – Menschen Masken Modelle" Porträts des französischen Künstlers Henri Matisse (1869 – 1954), der als einer der Begründer der modernen Bildauffassung gilt.

Cambridge in Autumn

A magic place of great importance for me, as I spent some very nice years as a graduate student there. I have visited Cambridge recently and I got the chance to meet up with old friends, go round the colleges, visit the fantastic library and bring back memories of my time there as a postgraduate student. On sunny days, Cambridge is even more beautiful! Watch out this space, as I intend to upload a PowerPoint presentation with photos taken in Cambridge from my recent visit there. This one is from the Mathematical Bridge at Queens' College.

Rothko at Tate Modern

Another exhibition I saw in London was the Rothko exhibition at Tate Modern by the River Thames this time! Mark Rothko was a Latvian-born American painter and printmaker who is classified as an abstract expressionist, although he rejected not only the label but even being called an abstract painter. His use of colour is magnificent and he narrates stories of the humane through his brushes of vivid, bright colours or more subdued ones like purple, maroon, or even black. His canvasses occupy sometimes the space of a whole wall and you feel like being drawn into reds, yellows, oranges and blues!

Tate Britain

I also had the chance to visit Tate Britain, a fantastic gallery, free to the public. I was exceptionally lucky that, Flaming June, a painting by Frederick Leigton, was loaned to the Tate for a year by a museum in Puerto Rico. Tate has a fantastic collection of Preraphaelite paintings, but Flaming June is definitely a gem. (picture not mine, available on the internet!). Tate Britain is definitely worth a visit, if you happen to be in London.

Momix in London

I have recently visited London and, among other things, went to the Peacock Theater to watch Momix, an American dancing group and I found it superb! Please have a look at their work from the link provided here. You have probably never seen something like that before. They are simply amazing!!!
